Rage Against the Dying of the Light…

In celebration, or denial, of members of the Illustrious Cumberland (RI) High School Class of 1974 approaching our 7th decade, I offer this idea.

Let’s not go quietly!

I propose the formation of…

Club rules

  1. Open to anyone in this esteemed class or anyone they care to bring along.
  2. That’s It!

What I am suggesting is a disorganized yet thoroughly enjoyable meeting on the second Wednesday every other month, starting this November 12th, at a suitably equipped place with talented bartenders, suitable drink offerings, and protected by an understanding and compassionate police department.

The location will be primarily in Rhode Island, with occasional forays into Massachusetts. Anyone is welcome to offer suggestions. We can even coordinate out-of-state meetings via the web. Depending on the reaction to this idea, I will post a schedule of dates and locations.

NO RSVP required, just show up or don’t.  The only other requirement is, if, or more precisely, when, you die, notify us so we can offer a suitable toast in your memory.

I will create a Facebook group, membership by invitation or Facebook request only. We have standards after all. Nay, we set the standard!

  1. The proposed first meeting is my 69th birthday so destiny calls, but I might be able to do remotely.

May I suggest a betting pool on the last classmate standing. It won’t be me, but Robin Wilkinson is a contender. Her mother is still living in the same house where Robin grew up in Cumberland and she’s 96 so Robin’s got good genes and a chance. I’m a 1000- 1 chance based on genetics and health history, stroke, depression, and epilepsy but I sure do have a chance as I learned how to take a beating as a player on CHS football team!
