Challenging Ignorance and Sophomoric Behavior in Political Dialogue

Since Vice President Kamala Harris has assumed the mantle of the presumptive nominee of the Democratic party for President, the level of vitriol targeting this woman has reached new highs, or more accurately, new lows.

The very existence of these insulting memes, idiotic opinions, and childish rants is the best argument for the need for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Widespread claims that Ms. Harris rose to various positions she has held, District Attorney of San Fransisco, Attorney General of California, United States Senator, and Vice President of the United States, not through merit or qualifications but through bestowing sexual favors serves to illustrate the total lack of decency or class among those who promote such hypocritical opinions.

The reality in this country is just a few short years ago, the idea of a Black President or a female President was inconceivable. The reality of minorities and women in almost every professional position was almost universally challenged, It is apparent that a significant number of Americans today still embrace this offensive notion.

Argue about her qualifications for the position. Provide examples of past acts or statements that might disqualify her from receiving your vote. Disagree with her intended policies. But to promote clearly racist and misogynistic statements opposing her candidacy is the epitome of ignorance.

On one hand, conservatives argue that DEI is an unnecessary approach to a problem they perceive as a relic of history. On the other hand, they then exhibit the exact same behavior DEI is designed to change, denying a person an opportunity because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion (or lack thereof.)

That many of these memes and pronouncements are promulgated by women is inexplicable. But then again, if you’re willing to accept as a candidate a man who has demonstrated his belief in the inferiority of women by objectifying them, why would anyone expect something different.

And when the response to this piece start rolling in, pay particular attention to those who scream, “I am not prejudiced.” Especially the ones who “doth protest too much.”

The sad state of politics in this country is the level of sophomoric behavior concerning the single most important office in this country. The lack of decency, analytical thinking, and decorum is troubling.

Anyone, anyone, who engages in such behavior betrays their country, their character, and their humanity.

And if someone finds this insulting and critical, good. I’ve made my point.

  1. I am always taken aback when females degrade and ridicule another female when she receives a position of authority, support is what should be given not derision. I do believe that Kamala Harris will earn her position on her merits and all of us females should rally around her.
