As many of you know, we love to hike. (In case you somehow missed me saying this every chance I get, I through hiked the Appalachian Trail, all 2,185 miles of it. To do that you have to be either crazy or love hiking. I will leave it to you to decide what category I belong in.)
While hiking, along with water, having snacks that provide energy is important. Not so much on the short four- or five-mile hikes, but the longer ones or those with serious elevation gains. We often choose so-called breakfast bars as our light weight yet potent choice to pack.
On a recent trip to the grocery store where some of these were on sale, our choices were limited due to high demand.
We chose Mixed Berry. Quite honestly, I do not notice a stark difference in the taste but that is what we chose.
Our other “choice” was never in consideration. In fact, when my wife told me the choices (I was likely trying to figure out how to put a box of Krispy Kreme Donuts in the cart without getting caught), I didn’t believe her.
One of the choices, something some research firm spent millions of dollars doing customer surveys on and concluded it was a promising idea, was Blueberry and—wait for it— BEET!
Are you kidding me?
What person in their right mind would eat a Blueberry and Beet breakfast Bar? I bet it tastes like…
If ever there was a sign of the coming Apocalypse that, is it.
Blueberry and Beet? Oh, come on!
Now make a breakfast bar out of Spam! and you are onto something.
