It all started when I learned to read. First, it was all fun, See Jane, See Dick. See Jane run. But then it got worse. I read the Encyclopedia Britannica. I read all the Hardy Boy Mysteries. Then I found the library.

Today I cannot pass up buying every book that catches my eye. I even started writing my own, but it was never enough.

Buying hardcovers helped, I couldn’t carry as many when I traveled and they took up more room, but then the cheaper, lighter paperback became my drug of choice. And then, Kindle came along and my descent into bookaholism gained speed.

I knew I was on a dangerous path. I’ve recently read, according to some school committees, state legislatures, and even members of Congress that reading could turn me into transgendered, hermaphroditic, gay, asexual, non-gendered, pronoun and restroom confused degenerate.

But it might be even worse. I could turn into someone who believes there is intelligent life behind the support for Donald Trump, but I digress.

On my Kindle device, as I write this confession, there are 1,328 books I haven’t read plus the 576 books I have read and occasionally re-read just to recapture the feeling.

If I add nothing more to my Kindle, and assuming I can read a book every three days, it will take me ten years to read them all. This ignores the fact I have a wish list of another 300 books.
