Sitting here beside the pool, in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano, I decided to read the transcript of President Trump’s inaugural speech. Among the many interesting lines, several jumped out at me.
“The Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity. We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.
There should be no fear. We are protected, and we will always be protected. We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by God.”
If ever there were a great reason to embrace atheism, those are it.
What manner of omniscient being, immune to the laws of physics, capable of performing miracles, would choose this man to lead a nation? If this is the Christian America so many claim, no more dangerous course has ever been set for this nation.
I would like to just sit back and watch the coming train wreck that is my country, but I find myself unable to ignore this. I had some hope that, after the vitriol of the election, Trump would give a speech that inspired.
I was sorely disappointed. Instead of a speech signifying the beginning of a new administration I see echoes of a call for a world of Christian Crusdes. Perhap we can adopt the anthem of the Aryan Nazi.
America, America Uber Alles. Or perhaps a more Christian theme of “My God, why have you forsaken us?”
