I detect a great deal of hypocrisy in the sudden embrace of Free Speech by Evangelicals, Right-wingers, fundamentalists, and others as they seek to “protect” the bigoted ranting of a guy famous (and wealthy) for making duck calls  A man who seems trapped in 18th century religious illiteracy.  This same collection of groups that so readily support denying any fundamental rights to the GLBT community.

I suspect the vocal support for free expression of these ideas has less to do with an appreciation of the First Amendment than with support of the hateful, bigoted, archaic, and dangerous message.

Dangerous you say, how so?

Because, if I understand Mr. Phil Robertson’s perspective on things, the GLBT world are all sinners destined for hell and Blacks were a lot happy before the Civil Rights Era (he knows this because he saw they were godly people, singing happily in the fields in his previously blissful Louisiana).

Doubt me?  Here’s the quote from GQ, (which I am willing to bet those screaming loudest didn’t read)

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field. … They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’ — not a word!

“Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues,” GQ quotes Robertson as saying.

Last time I checked, “white trash” doesn’t ride in limousines.

I have no doubt if asked, he’d have all women at home, cooking and cleaning, bearing children and deferring to the authority of their husbands.  Just like it says in the Bible.

So, it is dangerous because, gathering enough public support, and ignoring the same constitution they now so conveniently embrace, people like him would impose those moral platitudes on us all.

And that is what this is about.  Fundamentalists taking advantage of shallow, media driven idiocy of much of America.  One that can name all the stars of a show about duck calls, crazy brides, those famous for being famous, yet would have a hard time explaining the Constitution, let alone actually understanding Equal Protection, Free Speech, Separation of Church and State, and the basis upon which it was enshrined in the law.

The thing that is really frightening is there is so much support in this country over what a person that is famous for making duck calls says.   Who cares?  Apparently all of God’s cognoscenti.

This is just another chance to impose the hypocrisy of a specific religious philosophy. The false perception of the Judeo-Christian foundation of this country.

Another opportunity to impose their idea of morality using the authority of the Bible.  A document that is so filled with contradictions and nonsense as to make it almost unreadable, let alone practical.  Those that embrace the Bible gloss over the hard parts, the ones that talk about killing homosexuals and human sacrifice, for the kinder and gentler nice parts.

Here’s a rule to live by, when Newt Gingrich and Pat Robertson support something it is likely meaningless, insignificant drivel or dangerous to freedom.

I wonder if Mr. Duck Call had been censored for supporting Abortion or Gay marriage, the same cry of outrage would be going out from this quarter. I doubt it.

One last item, he also talked about how his views are those of the “Silent Majority.”  I do not recall who said it first, but the so-called Silent Majority, is neither.  Thank Goodness!
